The Kids for Change (K4C) Project
The Kids for Change (K4C) Project focuses on providing members of the Boys & Girls Club of the New River Valley (BGNRV) opportunities to learn about and participate in socially relevant and civically engaging activities, allowing them to demonstrate growing expertise in problem solving, algebra, the scientific method, and information and communication technologies.
The theme of K4C for the Fall 2008 pilot project is energy security and sustainability. During the semester, teams of participants will be challenged to retrofit an existing building using green design principles and knowledge about Passive Solar Building Design, Photovoltaics, and WindPower. Final deliverable will include a 3D digital model (using Google SketchUp) with a presentation that documents the process and justifies design decisions. Justifications will refer to relevant mathematical and science concepts, principles, and analyses introduced throughout the program. |

Social Networking Website
I was hoping you could refer a student to me that excels in website design and possibly social networking website design. I have developed, on paper, an idea for a new social networking website and am looking for a risk-taker that wants to try and bring it alive on the web.

Creating Promotional
Video
Beans and Rice, Inc.
Volunteers are needed to help in the creation of a promotional video about the Beans and Rice, Inc., programs and services.
Volunteers with experience working with audio visual equipment and background in video production and directing is desired. |
Marketing Consumer
Organization
Funeral Consumers Alliance Of The Virginia Blue Ridge
We need help in marketing our organization in the Roanoke and New River Valley area. We are a volunteer group and we would like people with marketing skills to help us get our message out and have our organization be known. Perhaps someone could give us pointers on our website, our newsletter, and ways to reach the public.
Volunteers for this position need to have marketing ideas, skills and the time to help implement ideas. |
Museum Collection
Cataloging/Data Entry
Giles County Historical Society
Do you like old things? Do you
have some computer experience? We are looking for people to enter accessions
data into our new museum cataloging software, PastPerfect. What does that mean, you ask? We received a grant from the Community Foundation of the New River Valley to buy cataloging software that enables us to put information about all of the items in the Historical Society's collections onto the computer. All of this information is currently on paper and rather difficult to handle. By entering all of this data onto the computer, we'll be able to search for people and things and find them more easily and better be able to help people who come here to do research. |
|
Experience with PastPerfect or other cataloging software is not necessary. General computer experience is necessary. |
Internet Opportunity Developer
We need an Internet-savvy, responsible volunteer to help us develop further our online presence, specifically setting up profiles on MySpace and Facebook. In addition, we would ask this volunteer to research and follow-up on various philanthropical online opportunities, such as Goodsearch.com and Paypal's new charity giving program.
We ask that this volunteer plan to reside in the New River Valley for at least a year. Obviously, having access to a computer and the Internet are essential. |
Web/technology volunteer needed
We need someone who has expertise in Dreamweaver to help maintain the HERE Website. It has been developed to a fantastic template by New City Media, but now we have to maintain it, and don't really have the expertise to do that ourselves. If you could come in for a few hours once a week or every other week to help with maintenance and training of the staff to do this work, it would help tremendously!
Expertise in Dreamweaver on Macs.

Client database
designer
Radford Clothing Bank
Design database to record and organize names, addresses, phone numbers, and birth dates of Clothing Bank clients eligible for free clothing. Include fields for proof of eligibility, New River Valley location, and dates of shopping visits. We need an easy-to-use user interface to allow volunteer staff to easily input and retrieve client records, and error checking to ensure all information is complete.
This volunteer must be familiar with database design and use, and must be skilled in providing simple interfaces for volunteers who are not accustomed to computer use. This is a major task and we will be so grateful to anyone who can help with this badly-needed service!
